进入正化年间（始自1989年），为了改善混乱堕落的社会风气，日本政府颁布《媒体良化法》，并成立特殊部门对所有可能影响世人身心健康的书籍进行查封与销毁。可与此同时，言论自由也遭到粗暴遏制和打压。为了捍卫自由思想，名为“图书馆自卫组织图书队”的组织应运而生，他们为了保护书籍拿起武器，许多人为此献出生命。高中时代曾被视为“王子大人”的图书队员相助，热血女孩笠原郁（荣仓奈奈 饰）决意加入图书队，可是负责训练她的二等图书正堂上笃（冈田准一 饰）似乎总有意刁难笠原，而女孩依旧凭借自己的努力成为一名图书特殊部队成员。在接下来的日子里，笠原和堂上教官、同期手冢光（福士苍汰 饰）的友情和信任日益加深。未过多久，左右言论自由的重大事件到来，图书队和媒体良化队宿命的战争拉开大幕…… 本片根据有川浩的“图书馆系列”的第一部改编。。Plaifon works as a social worker for children and women.
