故事发生在一九四八年的上海，段绍祥（黄日华饰）决定转战香港，于是将一半的家产交付给了在香港的叔父段万祺，自己带着另一半踏上了赴港之旅，哪知道半路遭到宋学礼陷害，沦落得身无分文。 抵达香港后，段绍祥想向段万祺讨要属于自己的财产，然而段万祺翻脸不认账，宋学礼更是一举成为了香港巨富，还得到了段绍祥的未婚妻梁惜梅（蔡晓仪饰）。愤怒的段绍祥发誓要让段万祺和宋学礼血债血偿。他成立了制片公司，捧红了美丽性感的白羚（曾华倩饰），又命颜如玉施展美人计，使得宋学礼和父亲亲情破裂。最终，宋学礼家破人亡，而段绍祥得到了他想要的一切。宋仕元（吕颂贤饰）是宋学礼的儿子，当他知晓家中变故皆为段绍祥所为之时，下定决心要报仇。。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。特异功能人士张宝胜的妹妹张宝珊（吴君如 饰）本来凭借自身异能供职于政府，后因受兄长所托，护送能够使人拥有特异功能的宝物“麒麟球”赴港。沿路有特异功能界败类华叔（元华 饰）率领天眼通、神医、狐仙等同伙堵截宝珊，意欲抢夺麒麟球，宝珊不敌众人将麒麟球扔给同行的马戏团猩猩芝达，芝达因麒麟球与电击的综合作用竟然化身为人（钟镇涛 饰）。摆脱了华叔等人的张宝珊与芝达一起抵港，宝珊保护麒麟球之余调教芝达种种做人的技能。另一方面，原来预定了猩猩表演的公司职员yoki（利智 饰）因芝达失踪而焦急万分，却又不经意与人形化的芝达结识并结为好友，情愫在他们之间滋长，然而麒麟球维持芝达人形的效力越来越有限了……。
