This would definitely not have been my kind of movie, but my husband saw it on TV and said it was really good. So, on his recommendation, I bought a copy, since I didn't know if it would ever be on TV again. I had never heard of anybody in it except Armand Assante. At first I had a hard time getting into the story, because the first part of the movie is a jumble of images-- and...。影片讲述了一位老母亲在晚年时期，儿女们为她举办了八十大寿寿宴，而寿宴上接踵而来的意外，让子女们成为村民指指点点的对象。。民国初年，赌坊蓬勃发展，被保安局视为洪水猛兽。保安队张队长假扮年前被杀的赌坊老板的儿子，往钱老板的赌坊要求赌命。因钱老板骗取朱老板的赌坊后，甚至杀人灭口。张队长赌赢了钱老板，钱不愿将赌坊拱手相让，甚至打算置他于死地。其后，钱表示愿意与张合作，给予他一半赌坊。但当钱以为张是朱老板的儿子，他决定不留活口。张被活捉，但逃脱了。原来张为负责扫荡赌坊而来，结果钱老板与他的伙计全被保安队带走。。
