1915年冬，中国一列由东北南下的火车上，年仅七岁的任鸿飞随父母调任上海。鸿飞之父虽是新上任的警察局长，但因不肯同流合污，刚到任不久，即与妻子二人同遭毒手，只留鸿飞一人，顿失依靠。鸿飞在街头流浪，认识了年仅12岁的街头小混混龙五，至此两人成为了结拜兄弟，誓要在上海滩闯出名堂。二人长大后，在上海滩头吃江湖饭，龙五为人狠劲火爆，任鸿飞则较沉着冷静。某次因缘际会，有黑道人士聘请两兄弟暗杀大亨童世舫，鸿飞前往地点视察，偶遇一位清丽脱俗的留法学生沈南星，鸿飞为她独特的气质所吸引，互相留下了深刻的印象。另一方面，龙五亦于小酒馆中邂逅了有火辣性子的方青阳，二人性子相近，展开了一段恋情。行刺之夜，鸿飞与南星再度重逢，原来南星随父出席宴会。鸿飞与龙五且战且退，最后两人分头逃走，但为见青阳一面，龙五竟失手被擒……。A contemporary comedy about two people who meet just as their previous relationships have imploded in ugly fashion.
