(Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。魔术大师陆幻奇（陈强饰）在阔别祖国二十五年后，于1962年返回上海。1937年，在闵行戏院表演魔术的陆幻奇突遭横祸，伪警长（李天济饰）觊觎陆妻美色，诬陷陆用的道具手枪是“私藏军火”。陆妻被逼自杀后，陆把小儿阿毛托咐给好友王小六子（程之饰），只身逃亡海外，一晃二十五年过去了。当年的阿毛如今叫张志诚（韩非饰），是公交车上的售票员，而回到上海陆幻奇乘座的第一辆交通工具就是儿子的共交车，无奈父子相逢不相识。而陆在车上遗失的行包被志诚打开，发现了当年的魔术用道具手枪，他下班后即送往杂技团寻找失主。陆见物思人，不忍回想悲惨往事，他把魔术枪送给了志诚。王小六子后来见到这把手枪，顿然大悟......。
