1980年代初，西山结核病医院。十六号病房里住着三个生活经历不同、家庭出身不同、脾气性格迥异的姑娘。她们是桑青青（方卉饰）、常琳（李羚饰）和田进军（方晓琴饰），平日里到也相安无事。不久，乡村教师刘春桦（宋晓英饰）住了进来，她心地善良开朗，当从小失去父母的常琳得知刘春桦患肺癌晚期时，相对自己平日里冷漠、消沉，内心触动很大。刘的丈夫陈仲男（冯恩鹤饰）白天对妻子笑逐颜开，夜晚独处时却以泪洗面。面对身患绝症仍如此坚强的刘春桦，桑青青和田进军也在思考着人生的含义。自觉不久于人世的刘春桦仍惦念着学校里的孩子和同室的病友...... 本片获第七届百花奖最佳故事片奖。。Dennis Allan is an scientist who visits Haiti on the strength of a rumour of a drug which renders the recipient totally paralyzed but conscious.
