故事发生在1932年的日本，年轻的灯塔员有泽四郎（佐田启二饰）带着刚刚成婚的妻子清子（高峰秀子饰）来到了位于东京湾的观音崎灯塔赴任。之后，清子为丈夫生下了两个孩子雪野（有泽正子饰）和光太郎（中村嘉葎雄饰）。灯塔守塔员的日子非常的清贫和枯燥，但是四郎和家人们在一起，还是感到十分的幸福。 1937年，四郎一家人转移到了一座荒岛上，驻守在那里的女岛灯塔中，随着时间的推移，夫妻两人之间的争吵越来越多，感情出现了裂痕。之后，四郎一路从一名小小的守塔员，最终攀登到了职业的顶峰——灯塔长，在此过程中，他收获了很多，但是也失去了更多。。For the thirteenth season, four of the six cast members from the previous season returned.
