这部根据垣根凉介同名小说改编的真人电影，是一部以应仁之乱前夕的京都为背景的动感十足的娱乐剧。影片讲述了日本历史上第一位率领起义的武士莲田兵卫，以及他身边的“不法之徒”们与强者对抗、斗争的故事。。本片根据同名京剧改编，源出「水浒传」，胡金铨编剧。值得一提的是，擅演悲剧的乐蒂首次以俏皮方式演出丫头一角。故事始于才子卞济（乔庄）落拓花田，卖画维生，与官家小姐（丁宁）一见锺情，却因恶霸（朱牧）介入而波折重重，闹出连篇笑话……。A man goes against the laws of God and man to help a friend, with unfortunate consequences, in this stylish drama from Turkish filmmaker Dervis Zaim.
